DETROIT -- Ken Griffey, Jr. had quite an impressive showing last night (4/17) at Tiger Stadium. The All-Star Center Fielder finished 5-for-5 with 3 home runs. Griffey's 9th inning bomb ended up being the winning run in a close, 7-6 contest.
"I was locked in tonight," Griffey said. "I couldn't wait to get up to bat again. That one I hit off the roof in the 9th felt great."
Griffey has an astonishing 5 home runs in 21 at-bats against lefties this season. He leads the league in home runs.

Waco stops MLB play
WACO, T.X. -- An insane cult of right wing religious fanatics has halted the MLB season after an assault on their compound killed pretty much all of them.
David Koresh, chairman or whatever-the-fuck of the Branch Davidians nutcase cult was sieged by federal authorities today in some weird fucked up event that no one really understands, so fuck it, but whatever, there was some weird, bizarre shit happening that probably involved child fucking so whatever.
Play will resume tomorrow. The Giants took 3 of 4 from Atlanta in the series.
Atlanta Braves in town for HUGE four-gamer
SAN FRANCISCO -- The National League West pennant race officially begins tonight when the Atlanta Braves and Giants meet for the first time this season to start a four-game series at Candlestick Park.
These two teams are long-and-away the best teams in this league, so whichever squad can win the season series will have the advantage in the razor thin division race.
The Braves' start to the season has been less-than-ideal. They've had two series losses to the Cubs, and have amassed just three home runs all season (13th in the NL). Outfielder David Justice (pictured right) with Halle Berry has been a bright spot: .368 average, 3 home runs, 9 runs batted in. Years later it would emerge that David Justice used to beat the shit out the prized actress on a daily basis. You can read about that here:
David Justice Almost Killed Halle Berry
Around The Leagues
- Fleet-footed Vince Coleman (NYM) has already stolen 7 bases this season, which means he's on pace for 162.
- Marquis Grissom (MON), Wil Cordero (MON), Jay Bell (PIT), Jeff King (PIT), and Willie McGee (SFN) each have eight game hit streaks to start the season.
- Paul Molitor (TOR) has 15 RBI's on the season for the 6-1 Blue Jays.
- The Minnesota Twins have lost 7 straight after winning their first game of the season.
- The California Angels are hitting .213 as a team with 1 home run in 230 at-bat's.
Giants drop back-to-back heartbreakers
SAN FRANCISCO -- The Giants have dropped the first two games of their home opening series against the Marlins, losing today on a blown save by Rod Beck.
With two outs in the top of the 9th, Marlins pinch hitter Rich Renteria hit a two-run home run to put the Marlins up 4-3 going into the 9th. Bryan Harvey, Florida's fine closer, finished the ninth 1, 2, 3 to close the deal.
The Giants lost in extras the night before. Willie McGee was the tying run at third in the 12th but Matt Williams couldn't bring him home. The Giants will try to salvage one game against the expansion Marlins tomorrow.

PITTSBURGH -- Jim Leyland's Pirates couldn't do shit against the Giants except lose. Bonds failed to homer, but the Giants still skull-fucked them with a three game sweep. Willie McGhee is now hitting .526, 3 home runs, 7 RBI's.
